HM-4A HPDE Doctor Blade

Precautions for Using Wire Section Doctor Blades

To achieve effective cleaning while maximizing the protection of the roll surface, different blade materials are selected based on the specific material of each roll.

1. Wire Section Doctor Blades Material Selection

  • Metal Rolls: Generally, carbon fiber blades are selected.
  • Rubber-Covered Rolls:UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) blades are recommended. However, carbon fiber or fiberglass blades can also be used.
    • Note: If using carbon fiber or fiberglass blades, you must pay close attention to blade wear and changes in the contact angle.

2. Operational Parameters

Maintaining a scientifically sound cleaning angle is critical. For the materials mentioned above, the optimal angle is generally between 20° and 25°.

3. Application Guidelines by Roll Type

  • Rubber Rolls in the Wire Section: It is highly recommended to use UPE cleaning blades for components such as wire guide rolls, tension rolls, stretchers (correction rolls), and wire drive rolls.
  • Couch Vacuum Rolls: These require special attention as they utilize two doctor blades with opposing edge orientations (one forward, one reverse).

The Dual-Blade Mechanism:

  1. First Blade: The blade edge makes tight contact with the roll surface, creating an instantaneous vacuum at the contact point. This “sucks out” fine fibers and foreign debris trapped within the roll pores.
  2. Second Blade: While cleaning the roll surface, it simultaneously scrapes away the debris extracted by the first blade.

Important: Because of their specific orientation and function, the distinct requirements for these two blades must be clearly specified during the procurement/ordering process and double-checked during installation.
